Governors

The Full Governing Body of Crowan Primary School consists of 12 members, some elected by parents of the school community and others co-opted for the specific skills and knowledge they can contribute to the benefit of the school.

Each Governor belongs to one or more of the following sub-committees:

Finance & Personnel - see separate tab

Curriculum & School Improvement - see separate tab

Premises and Health & Safety - see separate tab

Headteacher's Performance Review Committee - to meet with the School Improvement Partner (SIP) to discuss the Headteacher's performance targets; to decide , with the support of the SIP, whether the targets have been met and to set new targets annually; to monitor through the year the performance of the Headteacher against the targets; to make recommendations to the Finance Committee in respect of awards for the successful meeting of targets set.

 

There are additional statutory committees which governors are drafted onto when required -

Hearings Committee - to make decisions under the Governing Body's personnel procedures (for example, disciplinary, grievance, capability..) relating to the Headteacher or other members of staff; to make determination or decision under the Governing Body's complaint procedure for parents; to make determination or decision under the Governing Body's curriculum complaints procedure (for example, in respect of the National curriculum, disapplications, operation of the Governing Body's charging policy..)

Appeals Committee - to consider any appeal against a decision made by the Hearings Committee to dismiss a member of staff; to consider any appeal against a decision made by the Hearings Committee shoert of dismissal (disciplinary, grievance, capability); to consider any appeal against selection for redundancy.

Pupil Discipline Committee - to consider representations from parents in the case of exclusions of 5 days or less; to consider representations from parents in the case of exclusions totalling between 5 - 15 school days in one term; to consider the appropriateness of any permanent exclusion or fixed term exclusions totalling more than 15 school days in one term; to review the School Behaviour and Discipline Policy and make recommendations to the Full Governing Body on improving behaviour and attendance.

 

The constitution of the Governing Body allows for 4 elected Parent Governors (currently Mr. Stephen Willoughby, Mrs. Dawn Penberthy, Mr. Andy Jukes, Mrs. Katharine Marquis), 3 Community Governors (Mrs. Ann Butcher, Mr. Gordon Butcher and Mr. David Ireland), 1 Local Authority Governor (Mrs. Vanessa Carpenter), 2 Staff Governor (Mr. Paul Hunkin and Mrs. Vicci Hunkin) and 2 Trust Governors (Mr. Simon Willis and Mrs. Sandra Muriel).

As well as belonging to one or more of the sub-committees, individual governors also have the following specific responsibilities -

Mrs. Ann Butcher - Child Protection, the Every Child Matters agenda and Partnership Links

Mrs. Vanessa Carpenter - Accessibility, Special Educational Needs and Gifted & Talented children

Mr. Stephen Willoughby - Religious Education and Headteacher's Work Life Balance

Mr. David Ireland - Health and Safety

Mrs. Jackie Spoors - ICT and the School Website

Mr. Simon Willis - Admissions

Mr. Paul Hunkin - Attendance

Mrs. Dawn Penberthy - Assessment for Learning; Curriculum development

Ms. Sandra Muriel - Safeguarding

Mrs. Vicci Gillam - Improving Schools Programme

Each of our classes also has its own Class Governor.
