Special Educational Needs & Inclusion

If you or your child’s teacher believes that your child may have some special needs, we would follow the ‘Code of Practice’ for Special Educational Needs’ to identify the appropriate level of help needed. The child will receive an Individual Education Plan (IEP) that sets out the targets and short term aims for a child. This will be reviewed each term and your views as parents and those of the child sought.

Extra support may include:

  • Additional literacy, numeracy, speech or social programmes in small groups or individually with a teacher or teaching assistant
  • Individual support within the class from a teaching assistant

We have strong links with outside agencies which can offer specialist help to children or advice teachers and parents, often supplying individualised programmes of work. In all cases where we seek outside advice we would consult with parents.

If you would like further information please ask for a copy of the school’s ‘Policy for Special Educational Needs and Inclusion’.
